There are several forms of paid advertising available, which should be considered as part our your online marketing mix. Here are some good examples of paid advertising: - Pay per click advertising:
Here you pay for each click through to you website. The two main players in this field are Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing. You have full control over the content of your adverts, the maximum cost per click, the maximum daily budget and you also have full control over the choice of keyword search phrases. Whilst only 28% of Google searchers use Adwords, they are definitely worth using during quieter periods, or for targeting search phrases for which your own website does not currently appear on the front page. - Portal site advertising:
Here you generally pay a fixed annual fee for an advertisement on high ranking sites that directly relate to your business. This way not only will your entry be found by prospective customers, but most of these sites will also provide a good quality link back to your own site, which will improve its search engine ranking. Tourism operators in Cumbria - the Lake District should consider paying for an advertisement on our Lake District Accommodation website. Adverts cost just £95 for a full year's advertising and we provide SEO friendly links back to your own website. This site is currently 1st on Google for "lake district accommodation", 2nd for "hotels lake district" and 3rd for "lake district cottages". - Commission based sites:
These types of sites are available for a number of different business sectors including property and tourism. Good examples of these sites include www.laterooms.co.uk, www.booking.com, www.ebay.co.uk and www.lastminute.com. With these sites it is usually free to place your advertisement and you then just pay a small commission for each booking generated through these sites. This is a good, cost-effective method of appealing to a wide audience. - Pay for inclusion:
You do need to be careful with paying for inclusion on some of the link directories because Google has been tightened the net on this form of advertising, as it is deemed to be cheating the system because these links aren't being gained naturally. However, paying for these types of links should still be part of your SEO mix, you just need to be selective about the sites you choose. The key is to avoid sitewide links where a link back to your site appears on every page of a directory and you should also try and avoid paying for entries clearly marked as paid links. We recommend using good quality (PR3+) link directories where your payment simply means your submission is reviewed more quickly than any free link submissions.
